Having a baby shower can be a wonderful time to celebrate the arrival of new baby with a close friend or relative. They can be a lot of fun, not to mention helpful for the new mother in getting some gifts she needs for her new child. Here are some quick tips you may not be aware of when planning a shower.

Who is supposed to host a baby shower?

If you listen to tradition, any shower for the new baby should be put on by a close friend of the mom-to-be. Today, this tradition has been altered to where anyone associated with the new mom can be the actual host. This could include a co-worker or distant relative. You can take it a step further and have 2-3 people hosting it. With the workload involved in planning a big shower, this approach works very well.

When is the right time to have a baby shower?

Again, if you listen to tradition, it says that a shower should be held from one month to two weeks before the baby is due, but this is not practiced today as often. Now, you see showers happen after the new baby is born. So there is no set rule to this anymore.

How long should a shower last?

In most cases it is at least 2 hours long and sometimes up to 3-4 hours. As long as everyone is having fun, pregnant mother included, there doesn't have to be a set in concrete time limit.

Should there always be games at the baby shower?

This is a personal choice, but unless mom objects...food, drink and games will be a part of any shower. You can find man game ideas online that you can use if you need help in that area. One final tip, be sure to have a book where guests can write down their own advice for the new mom. It will be something that will be cherished for years to come.
